Haberfield Custom Home

Project Overview

This renovation and extension acknowledges the craftsman’s skill and delights in timber’s versatility, texture and warmth. Located in an urban conservation area subject to council heritage guidelines and the surveillance of local heritage groups, the design sensitively repeats the existing footprint of the house almost as a mirror image.

The original house had been stripped to its basics by its previous owners, so the renovation included reinstating some of the period features in the older parts of the house while expressing the same materials – brick, red cedar, hardwoods and painted surfaces - to create open, light, well-ventilated spaces in the addition. Specifically detailed timber connectors were prototyped for this project. All structural timbers were recycled ironbark.
