Designer's Notes

This kitchen contains many green elements: Aura Benjamin Moore paint, CaesarStone counters, Energy Star-rated appliances and reclaimed floors. A wall is removed separating the kitchen from the living dining area. This new open floor plan makes the area appear bigger and floods the space with natural light and good cross ventilation.

By installing brick facade to the large wall, the ordinary track home takes on an urban loft like feel. Using Low-E windows is a green way to avoid high energy costs for heating and cooling and prevents fading of your furniture.



Custom floor-to ceiling resin sliding doors with red metal strips ingrained in the resinprovide ample space for the closet. The red woven area rug and the strips in the sliding doors match the burnt orange wall in the stair hall beyond.



The state of the art kitchen for this gourmet cook owner features Poliform cabinetry throughout, stainless steel appliances and a back-painted glass backsplash that reflects the mood of the owner in the changeable LED light that shines on it.



The dark wenge backdrop to the bed incorporates a cove with a hidden LED lightstrip that can be adjusted according to mood. The simple bed is nestled between 2 floating nightstands. A red woven area rug over the natural wide-plank flooring defines the sleeping area.



The stone mass of the fireplace against the burnt orange wall, the dark wenge cabinetry against the natural wide plank floors and the simplicity of every move make for a powerful focal point in this Washington, DC apartment. The boulders are actually soft poufs for extra sitting.


Looking back from the living room towards the Game room, the striped backs of the lounge chairs themselves become a design feature. Light floods the space from all directions. On winter nights the fireplace becomes the gathering place for drinks and conversation.

Glass Wall Cottage

This cottage just has SERENITY written all over it!!!! I would add more decor to the interiors, but this totally captures my mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright, basis for design, "Every Room With A View".

This gorgeous cottage home design located in the resort setting of Mar Azul, on the shore of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was developed for low maintenance, low cost and low environmental impact with an eco friendly cottage appeal. Designed by Argentina’s BAK Architects, this cottage home is surrounded by forest, offering a private, peaceful setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. The concrete and glass house offers a great view of the outdoors, with an understated look that suits its natural surroundings. The glass wall house boasts a walkout to a wood patio and thus, a deep connection to the environment. Inside, two main living areas are designed for public and private life. The public spaces are housed in the glass-enclosed main floor, including a kitchen, dining and living room, which open to the terrace. The private living areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms are in a more closed-off style. Regardless of public or private, all interiors are finished with pine in this rustic cabin home. Tiffany lamps generally mean stained glass lamps. The reason they're called Tiffany lamps is because back in the late 1800's, early 1900's a guy by the name of Louis Comfort Tiffany propelled stained glass lamps to a new level. Using an innovative technique to produce exquisite decorative stained glass lamps that were works of art. Back in the day, Tiffany lamps were all the rage. And anyone who was wealthy enough to own one had one. Even the white house displayed a few lamps of Tiffany's.

Due to the popularity of these lamps, other company's wanted a piece of the action. And started making their own Tiffany style lamps. Two of the most popular makers of these beautiful works of art, (Tiffany Studios being the most successful and popular).

Lamp makers succeeded in producing good quality Tiffany style lamps. And even today, just like Tiffany reproduction lamps, you can get Handel reproduction lamps and Duffner & Kimberly reproductions lamps.

I highly recommend owning a Tiffany or reproduction, it is it's own art accent for any room. Each tells a story since individual lamps are based on a theme.
