Luxury Baths

bathtub, composite stone, Eco bathtub, Isis bathtub, luxury bathtub, luxury tub, Petit bathtub, stone bathtub, Tyrrell and Laing, Tyrrell and Laing bathroom, Tyrrell and Laing bathtub

Tyrell and Laing's line of large and lovely tubs evoke the timeless allure of natural stone, yet the material that makes these sensual and curvaceous tubs is decidedly modern.

Imperia Tub. Manufactured by Tyrrell and Laing.

To look at each of the tubs in Tyrell and Laing’s latest line, one would think they were constructed of solid stone, such is their beauty and bulk. In fact, the luxury tubs are not made of pure stone but rather a natural composite—“ a hard wearing smooth composite stone material with the appearance of natural stone without the drawback of excess weight.”

The difference is no small shakes as T and L’s luxury tubs look and feel like stone but are less expensive, less extractive, and, of course, lighter and thus easier to install (or move, should that unpleasantness become inevitable).

The line includes six models, each available in different colors and each possessed of their own special allure. The flagship of the bunch is the Imperia, a massive number in a range of colors and your choice of a matte or polished finish. Other models include the versatile Oceanus, the single-serve Petit, and the earth-friendly Eco, all of which evince a comfortable synergy between utility and indulgence: “warm and sensual to the touch and non-slip—our luxury baths are extremely comfortable to enhance your bathing experience. They are also easy to keep clean and come in a range of colors with a matte or polished finish.”

Modern Bathrooms

A Modern Master Bathroom
In this master bathroom, designer Vicente Wolf placed Clodagh Collection's Zen cast-concrete tub on a concrete slab inside the glassed-in shower enclosure to make it "a sculptural focal point." Faucets and shower fixtures by Waterworks.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this master bath!!!!!!!!!!

In this master bath designed by Fern Santini, Princess Yellow limestone from Ann Sacks surrounds a bathtub by Kohler.

A Swanky Bathroom
Designed by Paolo Moschino the sink in this master bathroom is an antique commode refitted with a limestone sink.

The pictures compliment the animal print on the chair, glad to see animal prints showing up in baths!

A Calming Bathroom
The floating tub and walls in brown vinyl grasscloth — Elitis through Donghia — give the master bath designed by Jeffrey Bilhuber an aura of absolute calm.

Designer Nancy Boszhardt said, "We were so lucky to come across this marble. It's no longer available and there was just enough for the master bathroom." The house originally had arches throughout, and Boszhardt restored that architectural feature.

Striking touch for a dramtic statement!!

A Roman-Inspired Bathroom
In this master bath designed by J. Randall Powers, the rays of an antique starburst mirror hung in a round window are echoed in a contemporary wheelback armchair. The limestone floors, marble countertops, and alabaster urns reference ancient Roman materials.

Designer's Notes/Bath Suites

Designer's Notes

A Mediterranean feel was achieved in this powder room with the warm wall finish. The walls were faux-finished with plaster relief arabesque motifs scattered about. A soft glaze was washed over for an aged feel, which complements the mirror and etagere.

A 1950's vintage bathroom can still be revitalized. A custom-designed vanity with an open storage compartment can visually give the illusion of more space. The area below can be used to stack towels and other toiletry items in neat boxes. The walls were covered in a coral-colored grasscloth for a wow factor.

A small powder room can benefit from a unique vanity cabinet. Here, the vanity cabinet is floating above the floor and has a capiz shell inlaid panel. This detail is repeated in the custom Venetian plaster finish on the walls and the border of the mirror.

Don’t be afraid to use a dark paint color, as long as you balance it with colors and textures that reflect light easily like glossy white wainscoting and polished metals. This is the color I used on my own bathroom, I added a terrazzo floor to pick up the colors in the wall and retain the white onto the floor.

Black-and-white marble tile, silver blue paint and charcoal gray concrete counters add trendy charm to this 1940’s home.

This completely gutted and redesigned  bathroom  includes a steam shower, large tub and double-sink vanity. The custom cherry blossom tile mosaic is from Ann Sacks and makes the bathroom feel unique and luxurious. Because the mosaic was an expensive addition, simple, inexpensive tiles were selected for all other areas of the bathroom to avoid breaking the bank.

Wood You???

E-Legno’s wooden bathtubs make bathing a relaxing ritual. Made of Canadian cedar (though the manufacturer does accept custom orders with different wood options), the E-Legno bathtub smells as good as it looks: cedar’s aromatic scent is sure to lull you into a transcendental state.

At 200 l x 110 w x 58 h cm, the tub offers a perfect fit while still providing lots of room for water—it holds 350 liters. Lean back against the soft wood; let your skin feel the natural texture. The Japanese have long realized the benefits and pleasures of bathing in wooden tubs; and with the Italians having taken over the concept, the E-Legno tub is designed with modern convenience in mind. Now everyone can bring home the healing power of soaking in wood—why hadn’t we all thought of this before?

E-Legno’s bathtubs come in round and oval shapes (excluding special orders, should you desire an octagon or other polygonal shape), and either design takes into account the curves of the body. If you’ve ever lay back in a bathtub and encountered a hard angle beneath your neck, you’ll appreciate this ergonomic detail; after all, the entire purpose of the bath is to relax your muscles, not aggravate them further. And the gorgeous tubs are also non-toxic, which should come as no surprise since E-Legno’s bath line promotes physical well-being.
Carpenter Francesco De Martino—like many Italian craftsmen, who inherit centuries of design (and must feel pressured to equal their longevity)—takes care to build a product that will last generations. During the first year, the water-resistant cedar will require some maintenance (E-Legno includes an ecologically-safe wax), but the result is worthwhile: the organic material will retain its beauty, and beauty is always in style.
